First Lady Jenny Sanford to Host Traditional Prayer
Columbia, S.C. – March 11, 2005 – First Lady Jenny Sanford is pleased to revive a South Carolina tradition – the First Lady’s Prayer Event. This year’s Prayer Brunch will be held in Columbia on March 23, 2005 at Rosewoods (1200 Rosewood Drive, at the State Fairgrounds) at 11:00 a.m. The traditional Prayer Brunch was first held in 1976 by First Lady Ann Edwards, but it was not hosted again until 1996 under First Lady Mary Wood Beasley. Last spring was the first time Mrs. Sanford hosted the event as First Lady. “People from all over the state have told me how enjoyable and how memorable the prayer service has been in previous years, and my own experience last year really inspired me to look into how we might make this an annual event. I wanted to make sure that this important time for reflection and fellowship was continued,” Mrs. Sanford said. Seating will be limited for this event. Individual tickets are available for $25.00 and tables for 8 can be purchased for $250.00. All proceeds from the brunch will go to pay for the event itself.
